What are the Symptoms
of Exzema?
Exzema is recognized from the symptoms. The symptoms
of Exzema help doctors to diagnose exzema. This will help in the treatment
of exzema.
The most common symptom
of Exzema is inflammation of the skin coupled with severe itching and
irritation. A person, who suffers from it, will have an uncontrollable urge to
scratch his skin. The skin also looks red, can be flaky or dry and at times the
severe itching can also lead it to ooze and crust. The skin feels very sensitive
and can be irritated by soap, creams and cosmetics. The exzema
symptoms vary in adults and infants. In infant exzema or
child
exzema, the symptom of Exzema
are seen on the face, neck and the insides of the elbows, knees and ankles (see
exzema
pictures). While in adults the symptoms
of exzema occur in any part of the body (see exzema
pictures).
A doctor usually diagnoses on the basis of the rash and
the symptoms of exzema that
are seen. While diagnosis can be made by simple physical examination, it is
difficult to pinpoint the exact cause
of Exzema. That takes a lot of time and detailed history of the patient.
Sometimes a doctor may even do a patch test to see what is causing the Exzema.
Childhood Exzema is usually Atopic in nature while adult exzema, especially on
the face and hands, may be due to a reaction to a foreign substance like
chemicals or cosmetics.
