What is Exzema?

In simple words, Exzema refers to an inflammation of the skin that causes itching, and redness in the affected area (see exzema pictures). Often you will hear doctors use the term Dermatitis to explain this condition as well. Both words describe the same condition. While the word Exzema in Greek means "bubbling or boiling through.” Dermatitis means "inflammation of the skin.”

Exzema is a generic term that is used for any kind of bubbly skin rash (see exzema pictures). It is not a specific disease. Exzema or Dermatitis is one of the most common kinds of skin complaints. It affects people of all ages and the symptoms of exzema can start at anytime. The most common symptoms of exzema are rashes on the skin. They are extremely itchy and uncomfortable and causes social embarrassment as it is visible to people. Studies have shown that child exzema or infant exzema is becoming quite common nowadays. While some people only have a few episodes of Exzema in their lives, for others it is a life long chronic condition.

There are many kinds of Exzema and the causes of exzema vary. Under a microscope all kinds of Exzema look the same, no matter what the causes of exzema maybe. A patient may have Exzema only in a part of his body or sometimes it may affect his whole body as well(see exzema pictures). There are mainly four different kinds of Exzema:

· Contact Dermatitis
· Atopic Dermatitis

· Dyshidrotic Exzema

There is no cure for Exzema however there are many medicines available for the treatment of exzema which can provide relief from the discomfort and itching related to Exzema. Everyday scientists are reporting new findings that have improved doctor’s understanding of this condition. With time doctors hope that researchers will be able to come up with more permanent cure for Exzema.

The regular use of exzema cream is recommended to strengthen the immune system and help further outbreaks of exzema in future. There are also home remedy treatment of exzema which have been reported to be quite effective.
