: The Ministry of Health's Medicines Adverse Reaction's Committee (MARC) says Elidel
exzema cream is still safe to use, despite overseas findings that it may increase the risk of cancer.
The United States Food and Drug Administration ordered stronger warnings on the cream, as research showed an increased risk of cancer in monkeys.
Medsafe's Principal Technical Specialist, Dr Stewart Jessamine says the committee has asked the pharmaceutical company which produces the cream, to put warnings about the increased risk of cancer on the packaging.
He says the safety of the cream will continue to be monitored annually, especially regarding its use on children under two years of age.
